News
There are over 500,000 illegally owned ferrets in California.

As an informed citizen and pet owner, I have offered help to organizations urging the legalization of these animals and to owners who live in or plan on moving to California. Two websites you can visit are Californians for Ferret Legalization and Ferrets Anonymous. After reading some of the articles available, I hope you will help in the cause for legalizing ferrets. You don't have to give money - just sign a petition, write a short letter, or make a phone call, whichever you prefer. Thanks everyone for all the help!

We are in desperate need of members - Nothing is required. You can become a member just to show off that you're in a DA group (We don't care!). But whatever help people are willing to give is greatly appreciated.

welcome to DA and good luck in such a great cause! I live in Queensland and like Califorian Ferret lovers am in a similar boat! I cannot own a fuzzy bundle of fun because of legistation in queensland, yet everyother state in Australia (Except the northern terrority) allows ferrets as pets! Coming from Ireland originally and owning a ferret it was dissappointing learning that I cannot own one here :( so I understand the frustration that your members go though!!!!!!! Good luck fighting what I believe in my opion is the right thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not strict... just hard to move with the sea of metal on the roads. :P I live in West L.A., so the major highways here are the 405 (lovingly dubbed "the parking lot"), the 10 (only bad if you're going to/from Santa Monica) the 5 and the 2. Traffic is always bad here during the day, and one of the major areas of conjestion just happens to be the region where I usually travel. It's ok though, I've learned the surface streets, but even there it's still stop and go. Where I lived in SC, if you were on a highway that had a speed limit of 65, you could actually do 65 miles in an hour. Usually more. ;)

Ah ok. I can see where you're coming from, although I like the palms and the hot weather. Are they really strict about speed limits?

No... the law against exotic pets like ferrets and hedgehogs (I owned both before moving here) is certainly misinformed, but not enough to make me want to leave. :P It's more that I just don't like it here... I love my job and going to Santa Monica, but that's pretty much all I like about living in CA. I'm big on family and community, and I just don't get that vibe here. Also, I like rain, trees (not of the palm variety) and seasons. I just get a sense that the days run together here, and social and financial extremes are thrust in your face all the time. I also like being able to go at least the speed limit on major highways. ;)

    ...but that's me.

Why is it not a good place to live? Just because of the law?

Good to see informed people fighting stupid legislation. I moved to CA from SC and had to find another home for my ferret before leaving. Seeing these images reminds me of how quirky and fun-loving he was, and I wish I didn't have to give him away. I've only been in CA for 2 1/2 years, but it's long enough to figure out it's a good place to visit, but not to live. But keep up the fight for those who don't mind living here as much!!
